With increased demand for solar installations, unsavoury characters are taking advantage of consumers' growing desperation.
As the loadshedding situation in South Africa worsens, many desperate citizens are turning to solar power at their homes or businesses to keep the lights on and - hopefully - save on energy costs in the long run. Unfortunately, with increased demand in solar installations, unsavoury characters are taking advantage of consumers' growing desperation.
Here are some simple tips to avoid getting scammed out of your hard-earned money:
Example: A legitimate URL will be https://www.fakesolarpowercompany.co.za while the fake website will be listed as http://www.fakesolarpowerscompany.com
NB! There are several renewable energy rental scams out there. The scam usually requires the customer "buy" solar panels and other related equipment. Some scammers even claim to sell wind turbines. The scammers then claim that the purchased equipment will be rented out to end users with a percentage of that rental income being paid into your account. No legitimate renewable energy company or installer offers any investment schemes like this and should be reported to authorities immediately.
